There are no specific prerequisites for entry. The course is generally available to students who have completed the Certificate IV in Screen and Media (CUA41215 or CUA41220) or Diploma of Screen and Media CUA51020, or applicants who are able to demonstrate substantial industry experience. A folio is encouraged, and an interview is required for entry.
Melbourne Polytechnic will supply learning materials, books and a personal data storage device. It is helpful to own a computer with video editing software to be able to work at home. A great range of cameras, lights, edit suites and other filmmaking equipment is readily available at the campus. There is no materials fee.
The government subsidised tuition fee is $12,350, with a maximum annual amenities fee of $260, making a total of $12,610. The non-subsidised tuition fee is $18,900 plus $260 amenities, totalling $19,160. For international students, the fee is $21,280 per year or $10,640 per semester. Contact Melbourne Polytechnic to find out if you are eligible for a government subsidy.
Various forms of assessment may be used, including observation of your performance and actions, direct questioning and verbal interaction, written tests and assignments, review of production portfolios and analysis of finished video productions.
Upon graduating, you will be equipped for employment in corporate video production houses, advertising agencies, government organisations, private industry and TV broadcasting. Melbourne Polytechnic will also assist you in crafting a professional resume and building an impressive portfolio and showreel to enhance your prospects in the industry.
