Common Questions
Professional experience placements total 41 weeks throughout the course. This includes 800 hours (20 weeks) for the nursing component in hospitals and community health centres in metropolitan, rural and regional areas, and approximately 840 hours (21 weeks) for the midwifery component in midwifery settings across Victoria. Placements begin in Trimester 1 of your first year and continue throughout every trimester of the course.
All students must complete three mandatory checks: a Police Record Check (required prior to professional experience placements in each calendar year of the course), a Working with Children Check (required at the commencement of the course in accordance with the Worker Screening Act 2020), and an Immunisation declaration to satisfy the requirements of health organisations. Students who fail to obtain these checks prior to the commencement of professional experience placement will not be able to undertake placement, which will impede progress in the course.
The lowest selection rank ATARs (based on 2026 early and first round VTAC offers, including relevant adjustment factors) are: 83.75 for Burwood (Melbourne), 80.05 for Waterfront (Geelong), and 76.1 for Warrnambool. Deakin Guaranteed ATARs (for eligible students) are 74 for Burwood, 71 for Waterfront, and 67 for Warrnambool.
You will gain clinical skills in a variety of settings including acute/sub-acute care, medical and surgical care, paediatrics, aged care, rehabilitation, community nursing and mental health nursing. Midwifery clinical experiences include all areas of midwifery practice, including pregnancy care, labour and birth, postnatal care and neonatal special care. These may be undertaken in hospitals and community health care centres in metropolitan, rural and regional areas.
No. The Bachelor of Nursing/Bachelor of Midwifery is only available full-time. It is a 4-year full-time course available at Burwood (Melbourne), Waterfront (Geelong), and Warrnambool campuses, with intake commencing in Trimester 1 (March). Students may be able to study available units in the optional third trimester to fast-track their degree.

Honestly I was lost when I first started looking at Australian colleges. There are just too many options and every agent gives you different info. A friend told me about FindTheCourses and within a week I had shortlisted 3 programs that actually matched my budget and visa situation. My advisor Sanjay was super helpful — never felt like I was being pushed into anything.
