Common Questions
The Graduate Diploma of Medical Sonography commences in 2027 and is only available full-time (Semester 1, Joondalup campus). Part-time study is not available for this course. Students are required to attend a minimum of 3 days per week at clinical placement sites from January to November of the year of enrolment, including mid-semester and end of semester breaks.
All applicants are required to have completed the Bachelor of Preclinical Foundations of Imaging Science (T78) at ECU before they can enrol in the Graduate Diploma of Medical Sonography (T77). Together, these form a 4-year accredited program: 3 years for the Bachelor and 1 year for the Graduate Diploma.
On successful completion of the Graduate Diploma of Medical Sonography (T77), combined with the Bachelor of Preclinical Foundations of Imaging Science (T78), graduates are eligible to upgrade their status with the Australian Sonographer Accreditation Registry (ASAR) from Accredited Student Sonographer to Accredited Medical Sonographer. The entire 4-year accredited degree must be completed within 5 years of initial ASAR registration.
Students complete two 40 credit point clinical placement units, totalling 3 days per week attendance at a clinical placement site over 48 consecutive weeks during the enrolled year (January to November), including mid-semester and end of semester breaks. Students may also be required to undertake part of their placement in a rural or regional setting. Prior to commencing clinical placement, students must satisfy a range of risk management protocols including a National Police Clearance, WA Department of Health Criminal Record Screening Clearance Card, First Aid Certificate, immunisation evidence, MRSA clearance (if applicable), and a Working with Children Check.
The estimated first year indicative fee for domestic fee-paying students is AUD $27,300. This is provided as a guide only, based on a typical enrolment. ECU fees are adjusted annually, and students pay for individual units rather than an overall course fee, so the total cost may vary. Some units may also require payment of incidental fees for goods or services required to complete those units.

Honestly I was lost when I first started looking at Australian colleges. There are just too many options and every agent gives you different info. A friend told me about FindTheCourses and within a week I had shortlisted 3 programs that actually matched my budget and visa situation. My advisor Sanjay was super helpful — never felt like I was being pushed into anything.
